Performing
at Singer Spotlight North Shore on Thursday, July 25 at Pops Highwood
Kristi
Alsip
Kristi
has been doing the showcase circuit for the last few years and loves
it more and more each time. Although her focus is blues, it's always
a great opportunity to sing all those obscure songs you might only
sing in the car! Kristi has been fortunate enough to sing at venues
such as Tailgators, Espial, Carmichael's, Buddy Guy's, the Metropolitan
Club, and the Green Front in Seattle. She also does theatre, voice-overs,
and gives tours at the Museum of Science & Industry. Kristi is currently
in Hyperworld Theatre's production of A Devil Inside which runs
Aug. 3-Sept. 14 (check out the postcard at the media table!) She
does the jobbing thing with the band Pursuit and has begun the formation
of a blues/rock band (now only in need of a bass player... any interested
souls out there, pick up her card!) Thanks go out to Kristi's endlessly-supportive
family and friends. You all are the absolute best.
Lucinda
Johnston
Lucinda
has been singing for as long as she can remember but never took
it too seriously. After one miserable year as a vocal performance
major she decided to put her singing on hold temporarily. Who knew
that would mean more than 10 years! After moving to Chicago she
pursued an acting career that included musical theatre. Currently,
Lucinda is a working actor and although, singing has taken a back
seat to acting it remains her first love. After performing in the
April 2001 Showcase, Lucinda, vowed to pursue singing on a regular
basis. She even auditioned for a band but was sidetracked when offered
a role in a great play. Now that she got that out of her system
the focus is on singing. She is currently looking for an acoustic
guitar player or band to work with. Lucinda would like to thank
all of the incredible women who produce "Singer Spotlight". Their
genuine kindness, support and energy makes you feel like you can
do anything.
Joni
Larlee
Born
into a musical family in New Brunswick, Canada, on the border of
Maine and Quebec, Joni began singing at the age of 2. Her first
career was as a model and a vocalist then she refocused her energy
on hair design and began her second career. She also started to
write as well as teaching classes in progressive relaxation and
self-awareness. Joni returned to her singing career in 1997 performing
at Jilly's Café in Evanston, Adagio, Misto and the Empire Room in
Chicago. She has also entertained Chicagoans at private parties
and special events. Now that the music in her soul has been re awakened,
her sensitivity, passion and imagination, which she calls "passionation",
continues to be expressed in her singing and writing. Her French
background has enabled her to incorporate French music into her
repertoire of vintage standards. Reminiscent of Edith Piaf and Rosemary
Clooney, her sultry sound is definitely one you'll remember. Joni
is totally impressed with the Singer Spotlight band and their musical
skills and she is thrilled to be returning to Singer Spotlight North
Shore on July 25.
Ava Logan
Ava
Logan is a native of Washington D.C. She moved here in November,
1993, and Chicago is her kind of town! She is excited to make her
her second Singer Spotlight appearance on the Pop's Highwood stage.
She has been performing jazz, pop, and rhythm and blues all over
Chicagoland. She is a vocalist with The Wayne Michael's Orchestra.
Presently, she is also an understudy for the Nancy Wilson character
in the Black Ensemble Theater's production of Dynamite Divas!, a
celebration of the history and music of Nina Simone, Roberta Flack,
Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, and Nancy Wilson. It is a must see
show! She wishes to express her deepest gratitude to her family
and friends for their never ending support and encouragement during
this singer's journey…
